HOMESCHOOL DEBATE CLUB
Confidence, Critical Thinking, and Community
Speech and Debate is one of the most powerful ways for kids and teens to build confidence and develop lifelong communication skills. Learners practice expressing their ideas clearly, thinking critically, and responding thoughtfully to different viewpoints—skills that benefit them in learning, future careers, and everyday life.
Each class includes fun impromptu speaking activities and engaging debate topics that help students practice organizing their thoughts, speaking clearly, and thinking on their feet.
Learners are provided a “Topic Guide” the week prior to class so they can read about the topic and do research on their own if they choose. We debate real-world topics like:
- Should we ban plastic bottled water?
- Are zoos ethical?
- Should food be free?
- Should we replace textbooks with tablets?
- Is rural or urban living more preferable?
This club is designed specifically for homeschooling families and provides a supportive space where kids and teens can build confidence, develop leadership skills, and learn how to communicate effectively.
✔ Small groups that grow together and build lasting friendships
✔ Live weekly instruction led by experienced, champion debaters
✔ Engaging activities that strengthen critical thinking and communication
✔ A clear pathway to competitive debate for learners who want to take their skills further
We also offer a Homeschool Debate League – where learners can participate in nationally recognized speech and debate tournaments (all virtually)! This is something that homeschoolers have typically been excluded from in the past, so we are thrilled to partner with a tournament provider to offer this to our learners who are interested in going beyond the club.
